Maximizing: Creating The Dream Bar

dream-bar

At Kiteboarding, we sometimes like to play God with kiteboarding equipment. Here, we imagine a control system that blends the best features available today with some futuristic ideas. Is this the future of kite bars? Only time will tell.

Present Standards

Here are a few of the most desirable features in today’s control systems. The dream bar would have them all.
— Below-the-bar depower
— Auto-orienting chickenloop
— Adjustable bar length
— Rear line adjusters
— Adjustable stopper ball
— Bungee line holders
— Floating capability
— Redundant safety, including dummyproof and color-coded lines, color-coded bar grip, soft bar ends, fifth-line quick release (for five-line kite lovers), and dual “oh shit!” loops

Dream Standards

Kiteboarding’s future holds some really awesome potential. Here are a few items that could make a kite bar dreamier than ever.

Autopilot
Simply activate and your kite pilots itself (in a depowered state) to 12 o’clock neutral whenever you release the bar.

Plug-n-play replacements
Quick-release-type connections for all wearing parts. Simply disconnect and plug in the replacement. You’re ready to play in 30 seconds.

Lockless loop
Replace the “donkey stick” with a high-powered magnet inside the chickenloop.

On-the-fly adjustments
Fine-tune bar width and/or line lengths without landing the kite.

Failproof front-line swivel
Keeps front lines untwisted without user intervention and never locks up or tangles.

Push-button power
Adjust depower from the bar with one finger.

Über-light
Weighs only 8 ounces with lines. Reduces travel weight and hand fatigue.

Simple one-handed reset
Easily reset the quick release with one hand.

Self-winder
Activate and your lines are automatically wound and stored tangle-free.

Custom grips
Combat hand fatigue and tendonitis by picking the bar diameter (girth) and grip type (soft versus traction) of your choice. Texture coding also indicates left versus right.

Finger guard
Prevents the chickenloop from rubbing in between your fingers when riding unhooked.

Smart lines
Tangle-free, unbreakable and stretchproof lines.

Night lights
Stay seen and see well during sunset downwinders.

Watertight bar storage
Utilize the hollow space with compartments accessible on each side of the bar. Choose any combination of these dream enhancements:
— Swiss Army repair tool
— Cartridge inflated flotation device
— Safety beacon (EPIRB)
— Jellyfish sting remedy
— Compact first-aid kit

Electronic accessory panel
Add any of the following custom-ordered gizmos to be integrated into the bar grip:
— VHF radio
— Camera
— Bluetooth MP3
— Wind meter
— GPS with speedometer and altitude readings
— Fog horn

Just wanted to let you know to have a look at the Peter Lynn Navigator Bar, which has really all of the present Standards of your list plus one of your Dream standard - the Autopilot - also called auto zenith, a much liked feature all Peter Lynn Arc Kites have since years. When you let go of the bar with your depower loop hooked in, the kite automatically flies to the zenith.

If you can get the GPS to radio in its location, I'm sure the kite schools in Aruba would love you. While you're at it, stick a lojack in my board!
