I like the waist harness 99 percent of the time but I just found a sweet harness with leg loops that is super comfortable for snowkiting.
I first started kiting with a waist harness. Didn't know any different. About a year later got into a seat harness, & found myself laughing during my first sesh with it… No harness under the ribs, bar kept low, free feeling. 3 seasons later I tried a Pro-limit FX waist harness…. I took my seat harness and burned it!
In my experience seat is good until you get to intermediate then switching to waist takes you to the next level.

Why would anyone lock themselves into one or the other? Each have pros/cons. No need to debate or sacrifice. Get an Ocean Rodeo Session 2 hybrid harness. Although their ad says "choose waist or seat", it's not so much seat as it is hybrid- the best of both worlds! I choose hybrid. Seat harnesses are too restrictive. Waist harnesses will at some point, ride up. Harness shorts have no back support. I wish I would have discovered the Session 1 a long time ago. I have never tried it, but the Session 2 sure is great. The nice back support, freedom of movement, and best leverage against the kite of a waist harness, with the security of leg straps to keep it that way-restricting ride up and sore ribs. The only thing missing to make it perfect would be the spreader bar hold down strap of the Mystic harnesses (bummer! maybe in Session 3.0?), and a quick release buckle (easy add-on available by Mystic). The only thing not needed on this harness is the bungie in the back to go from the harness to leg straps (easily removed). If you are not happy with your current harness, or want to give hybrid a try, check it out! Now that I have went hybrid, I will never go back.
I've been using a harness for a couple years that I think the Kiteboarding Editor is describing, which combines the waist harness with leg straps…way comfortable on water and snow, and never rides up…and I feel more balanced in the air too, instead of feeling like I'm hanging with a low center of gravity.
I love all the variations in gear…the sport is growing and adapting every day.
Hybrid waist and seat harnesses have been around for ages. Choose either depending on your situation. Just don't get fancy and try to use your learner's seat harness as a waist. That will hurt your ribs.
