This time of year, there are few places I would rather be than the Florida Keys. Islamorada is sunny, windy and in the 70s. This week, Kiteboarding magazine has partnered up with Broneah Kiteboarding and Cabrinha at the beachfront Islander Resort to host our first fantasy camp. Intermediate-to-advanced kiteboarders from around the nation have been treated to one-on-one instruction, in addition to getting a chance to ride and hang out with Cabrinha pros Damien Leroy, Clarissa Hempel and Jon Modica.
The whole idea of the camp is to take everyone’s riding to the next level. For some, learning tips on how to stay upwind was a breakthrough, while others learned to ride strapless surfboards or pull their first front and back rolls. The students’ levels have progressed quickly with the wealth of knowledge that is here. Each day, riders are pushing their individual limits.
The days here in paradise are filled with great meals by the pool, kiteboarding sessions, hardcore games of volleyball, stand up paddle boarding, and post-ride hot tub sessions with ice-cold Coronas. Well, the wind is up and it’s looking like a good day for a group downwinder in the shallow flat water. Time to ride.
