Photo Gallery: 2010 Kiteboarding Fantasy Camp

We all have fantasies. Perhaps you dreamt of being an astronaut when you were a kid. Or maybe you longed to shoot hoops with Michael Jordan or play golf with Tiger Woods. However, if you’re seriously into kiteboarding, then your biggest fantasy most likely involves cranking wind, warm water, and an idyllic tropical destination.

This February, seven lucky readers got to live their dreams thanks to a new fantasy camp in the Florida Keys put on by Kiteboarding magazine, Broneah and Cabrinha. At the camp, participants were able to kite, hang out and get tips from top Cabrinha riders Jon Modica, Clarissa Hempel and Damien LeRoy at a private, white-sand beach on Islamorada. The five-day event was designed to take participants’ kiting skills to the next level, while letting them experience the thrill of kiting in paradise with some of the world’s best riders.

Each day from 10 a.m. until dark, campers took advantage of a variety of incredible activities. Outside of hanging out and kiting with the pros, they were also offered one-on-one instruction from Broneah’s team of coaches, given unlimited access to a wide array of the latest Cabrinha gear, and ferried in style on a four-mile downwinder aboard a sleek 38-foot catamaran. Everyone stayed in plush oceanfront villas at the ritzy Islander Resort and was given the run of the resort’s two pools, hot tub, tiki bar and 200-foot fishing pier.

Kiteboarding Editor Aaron Sales hosted the camp and brought along a team of photographers, videographers and writers to document the action in and out of the water. The camp was such a success, Sales and crew put the subsequent coverage into an eight-page feature story that appears in the latest issue of Kiteboarding, which hits newsstands in April 2010).

For those of you who missed it, this online feature captures some of the camp’s highlights. Here you’ll find a collection of hot photos from the event, so you can vicariously live the dream yourself — at least until our next fantasy camp rolls around.
