One of the first load-and-pop tricks you will learn unhooked is the raley. While edging hard with your front leg straight and back leg bent, unhook and briefly relieve your edge, and head slightly downwind to pick up your board speed. Quickly reset your edge to “load” and tension up the lines. At the peak of your power in both line tension and edging, “pop” yourself off the water by quickly throwing your legs straight behind your head. This should happen almost automatically when you relieve your edge and the tension on the lines pulls you forward. Lay your body out for extra extension, and be sure to bring your legs back under you with knees bent to absorb the impact of the landing.
