Learn to Kite Groundboard

Start with your board upwind and launch your kite as normal to a neutral position over your head. Step back to your board with the front tip of the board pointed in the direction you want to dive the kite. Step onto the board while maintaining the kite's neutral position. Dive the kite in the direction your board is pointing and ride away.

Essential tips

1. Be comfortable flying your kite and using its safety features.

2. Be able to ride your mountain board kiteless on flat or slightly hilly terrain.

3. Wear shoes, pads and a helmet.

4. Fly in steady lighter wind or on a much smaller kite than you would use on the water.

5. Choose an area with a fairly firm surface, such as a hard beach, with plenty of room and no obstacles.

6. Give yourself about three line lengths of space in all directions. You can shorten your lines to allow this safe zone.

7. Lower the board's tire pressure to help control your rolling speed or to increase your float in softer terrain.
