Photo Gallery: Alaska Snowkiting Adventure

As snowkiting continues to gather momentum worldwide, new locations are being discovered, but to date, few compare with the vast terrain in southwest Alaska. Kiteboarding magazine editor Aaron Sales teamed up with photographer Richard Hallman and Best team rider Jacob Buzianis to explore thousands of square miles of snowkite terrain by ski plane with Chaplin Air.

“The plane allowed us to look for mountainous terrain that we weren’t even sure if it was possible to ride,” Sales explains. “When we saw what we were looking for, the plane would land and off we’d go. In Alaska the mountains are steeper, there are crevasses, and if anything were to go wrong, we were still a hundred miles from Anchorage.”

But thanks to five straight days of wind and sunshine, the crew scored endless powder in virgin terrain for a trip of a lifetime. If this looks like something you may want to try, don’t worry — Alaska has plenty of terrain yet to be ridden.
