This August I was lucky enough to visit Hurghada, Egypt, located by the Red Sea. It is one of the world’s top scuba diving locations and was recently discovered as a popular kiteboarding destination for European kiteboarders. It’s no surprise, really, as the water is turquoise, the wind is consistent and there is a good chance you will suddenly find yourself kiting right in the middle of a pod of dolphins or see fish passing below as you cut across the clear blue water. What shocked me most about Egypt was there were no Egyptian women anywhere to be seen. The staff in the hotel was all men. There were all quite friendly, although a blonde girl by herself has to expect to be chatted up every time she leaves her hotel room. Fortunately, I spent most of my time on the water where the only harassment came from my teammate, Jeremie Tronet, to score the best shots possible. — Linn Svendsen
