Venezuela is home to some of the most incredible kite beaches on the planet, along with perfect exposure to the famous southern Caribbean trade winds. The three best known kite spots are Margarita, Coche and Los Roques. Dare2Fly offers kite lessons at all three of these amazing places. El Yaque beach on Margarita island is a one of the most popular windsurf destination on the planet and because of that, kiting is restricted to early morning and late afternoon right in front of all the hotels. Just up-wind from the main windsurfing area it is possible for advanced kiters to launch any time of day. Beginners and intermediates can take a boat shuttle to kite beach, a small island about a half mile up-wind of El Yaque. You can kite there all day or do down-winders back to town.
The wind comes side-shore and as soon as you get off the beach a bit, 2-3 foot swells will help keep you entertained. It's not uncommon for the wind to be above 30 mph. El Yaque is a tiny town with several good restaurants and nice beach bars, but not much night-life to speak of. Take a taxi to the the city of Porlamar for a some of the wildest nigh-life anywhere. Margarita island is worth exploring too with real jungle like sections, gorgeous surfing beaches, rocky desert scenery, great shopping and the hussle and bussle of a real South American city in Porlamar. Popular accommodations in El Yaque include El Yaque Beach Hotel, El Yaque Club and Hotel Atti.
Coche island is much more low key than Margarita with one small fishing village with a couple of restaurants and just a couple of hotels. The Coche Paradise Hotel is home to the Dare2Fly center where lessons are offered by our IKO certified instructor. The hotel features a nice pool and an full meal plan for guests of the hotel. Many people take day-trips to Coche from El Yaque. The ride takes about 20 minutes and lunch at the Coche Paradise can be included. The appeal of Coche is the off-shore winds and glassy-smooth water. The wind in Coche tends to be a bit lighter than in El Yaque so it also offers a nice alternative when it gets too windy there again.
Los Roques is an archipelago of over 40 small islands, located just a short flight away from Margarita. Because of all the different islands there are it's easy to find all possible kite conditions, from rolling swell and cruising from island to island, perfect glassy protected bays with off-shore winds to actual point breaks at some of the windward islands. The Dare2Fly center is located on Francisqui, just a short boat ride away from the main island of Gran Roque. Los Roques is a true kiters paradise where boat taxis can take you to a new private kite island every day of your stay, or you can hang out with Elias and Lieselotte on Francisqui, the only real kite hang-out.

I went a couple years ago and yes the kiting spot is nice, but leave the beach and everything else sucks! Chavez has ruined the country. The first place we showed up at was so bad we left after one night. A beachside hirise with a closed beach!! The island is filthy and run down; so poor the stores' food shelves are empty - even for simple staples like bread and eggs. At one of the beach restaurants they had only ONE of the 7-8 fish selections on the menu. The islanders were in general exceptionally rude and lazy, especially to Americans (probably because of Chavez's ruination of the country and its people), and, everyone is out to screw you. They make all american flights fly through Caracas which is just a big screw job with extortionist level exit fees - CASH ONLY!
The exchange rate is artificially low so you have to find the right people to make cash exchanges. This is no joke! The island has gone to pot since Chavez took over. Any thoughts about going there should begin with a thorough investigation because a lot of the websites intending to draw you there will not expose the negatives for fear of losing business.
